Why Farm Life?

When my only child moved away from our home in California to attend Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania, I struggled to find an interest that satisfied my need to nurture and care for something beyond myself. Visiting my brother and sister-in-law’s farm in Idaho, I discovered how much I enjoyed helping with their animals, working in their fields, problem-solving unexpected challenges, eating food procured by their own hands, and, at the end of the day, feeling fatigued and satisfied from working hard.

I began dreaming of a place where I could live this lifestyle and started perusing real estate sites for properties with land that could be farmed and with space for animals to be raised. When I came across "The Britton Farmstead" for sale, it checked all the boxes and then some. Before short-term rentals became common, I dreamed of owning a bed and breakfast someday. The original farmhouse, built in 1920, was already set up as four separate short-term rentals. I could satisfy my desire to host and share this beautiful property and rural life with others while venturing into homesteading. And so, a new course of direction was set for my life, and Gettysburg Farmstead was founded.
